Rules & Terms

The Rock Horror in Rio Film Festival is interested in original films of the following genres for it's annual competition: horror, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, and animation.

  1. CATEGORIES & FORMAT - The Rock Horror in Rio Film Festival only accepts the following genres: Horror, Thriller, and Fantasy in the formats feature, short and animation.
  2. TRANSLATION & SUBTITLES - All international films must be subtitled in portuguese and have a DCP copy to show at the movie theater. THIS IS NOT AN ONLINE FESTIVAL. WE DO NOT ACCEPT FILMS WITHOUT THOSE REQUIREMENTS. In case, your film doesn't have the required subtitles, inquire about our filmmaker package that includes subtitles and the DCP copy necessary for the screening at the festival. Obs: All subs will be checked, if they don't follow the quality standard demanded by the festival, they will be rejected. We don't accept subtitles translated through automatic translating tools. The films that doesn't respect these rules will be withdraw.
  3. SELECTION - Entry does not guarantee acceptance into the festival. All films will go through the curatorship and will be selected and programmed according to the discretion of the festival organizers.
  4. WITHDRAWS - Submissions WILL NOT be returned.

  5. NOVELTY - We also accept submissions that have premiered elsewhere and that may have distribution agreements already in place, except if they have been released commercially.
  6. MATERIAL - Incomplete projects are not accepted.

  7. MULTIPLE ENTRIES - Multiple entries are allowed, however a separate entry form must be submitted for each.
  8. EXHIBITION - The festival will only screen films in DCP, In case, your film doesn't have the required subtitles, inquire about our filmmaker package that includes subtitles and the DCP copy necessary for the screening at the festival.
  9. SUBMISSION METHOD - For logistical reasons, we will only accept submissions though one of the festival platforms: FILMFREEWAY, WITHOUT A BOX, FESTHOME, FILM FESTIVAL LIFE, CLICK FOR FESTIVALS. 
The deadline for the 2019 Edition is April 27th. Observe carefully the instructions regarding the submission and material delivery, as well as the demands for the exhibition of the selected films. Films that don't follow the rules could be withdraw from the competition even after been selected.

PROGRAMMING & EHXIBITION

Screenings are scheduled during the Festival at the discretion of the Rock Horror in Rio Film Festival.

The festival reserves the right to make changes at any time for any reason. The Rock Horror in Rio Film Festival will not be liable for any costs claimed as a result of a change in scheduling.

No film may be withdrawn from the festival program after its selection.

Filmmakers will be solely responsible for all costs resulting from the submission of the film to the Festival including but not limited to postage or insurance of the film, and expenses of your staff or any representatives of the film.

Producer will indemnify the organisers of the Festival against all claims, demands, costs, damages, expenses (including legal fees), proceedings and losses resulting from the screening of the film at the Festival or from claims by any third parties.

LOSS OR DAMAGE

Although every precaution will be taken to prevent loss or damage to materials while in the possession of the festival, Rock Horror in Rio Film Festival is not responsible should any materials be damaged while in transit to or from, or while in the possession of the festival.

ENTRY LIABILITY

The filmmaker holds the Rock Horror in Rio Film Festival, its management, juries, subsidiaries, agents, sponsors, affiliates, and etc. harmless from any and all claims of liability resulting from entry. The filmmaker certifies to have full rights. Producer will indemnify the organisers of the Festival against all claims, demands, costs, damages, expenses (including legal fees), proceedings and losses resulting from the screening of the film at the Festival or from claims by any third parties.
